Storytelling is one of the original art forms of the humanity. Inspirational Jamaica-born storyteller Amina Blackwood Meeks visits Finland for the first time! Meeks explores the ancient wit and wisdom of Africa and explains our lives and history, celebrates the living and the dead, provides thought, enjoyment and laughter.
Meeks is an engaging narrator that creates a unique space and atmosphere between the audience and the narrator. The stories often repeat themes of wisdom, wit, inequality and equality, and serve as a metaphor for events and oppression in history. Through these stories, we can rebuild and refine our worldview.
Meeks is an award-winning performer, educator, lecturer, writer, director and social and cultural researcher.

Tarinankerronta on yksi ihmiskunnan alkuperäisistä taidemuodoista. Karibialla, Jamaikalla syntynyt inspiroiva tarinankertoja Amina Blackwood Meeks vierailee Suomessa ensimmäistä kertaa! Meeks palaa tarinoissaan usein afrikkalaisille juurilleen ja selittää elämäämme ja historiaamme, juhlii eläviä ja kuolleita, tarjoaa ajateltavaa, nautintoa ja naurua.
Meeks on mukaansatempaava kertoja, joka luo ainutlaatuisen tilan ja tunnelman yleisön ja kertojan välille. Tarinoissa toistuvat usein viisauden, nokkeluuden, eriarvoisuuden ja tasa-arvon teemat ja ne toimivat metaforina historian tapahtumille ja sorrolle. Näiden tarinoiden kautta voimme rakentaa ja muokata maailmankuvaamme uudelleen.
