All welcome to November's Turku Öpen Mic at Bar Ö, 19:00, 14.11. 2024. We begin with our featured poets Aika Huusko and Jaakko Toivonen and then proceed to our open mic where anyone where all are welcome to take the stage and present their work in the language of their choosing.
Aika Huusko on kirjoja julkaissut lavarunoilija, kääntäjä ja muutoksen levoton aktivisti. Riippuvuuden kirjo, uhatut ihmisoikeudet ja eksistentiaalinen tyhjyys vuorottelevat hänen viimeisimmissä töissään. Aika on opiskellut luovan kirjoittamisen maisteriksi Kingstonin yliopistosta, Englannista, vuonna 2012. Hän rakastaa kontrasteja, nukkumista ja hän unelmoi vapaasta Palestiinasta, Ukrainasta, Kongosta, Sudanista...
Aika Huusko is a published spoken word poet, translator and a restless activist of change. Addiction spectrum, threatened human rights and existential emptiness alternate in their most recent works. Aika holds a Masters degree in Creative Writing from Kingston University (England), 2012. They love contrasts, sleeping and they dream of a free Palestine, Ukraine, Congo, Sudan and more!
Jaakko Toivonen, better known as Fractal Pilgrim, is a youthful, idealistic poet and writer presently based in Turku. Their poetic vision encompasses a far-ranging, dynamic exploration on the mystery of existence and the interplay of mind, matter and language, while holding up an unapologetically abrasive mirror to the banality and destructiveness of capitalistic modernity. Fractal Pilgrim's poetry revels with equal glee of expression in the beautiful and the grotesque, threading together, poem by poem, a holistic, if complex, image of the vortex of history approaching its event horizon, with a relentless twinkle of hope glimmering in the eye of the abyss.
